Did Someone Say “Safari”?

Safaris are the ultimate way to enjoy the beauty of nature and marvel at the wondrous sights, at their most natural and authentic state. You observe the wilderness unfold and unravel around you, and for those few hours, you are a humble guest in the animal kingdom. It is every traveler’s dream! Wilpattu National Park offers much more than just safari drives, because they also have safari camps that are carefully constructed to exemplify and enrich the simplicity of the nature that surrounds it. Get everything ready and prepare yourself for an adventure of a lifetime!

Guided Safari Game Drives:

Drive into the heart of the jungle and enjoy an immersive experience out in the wild, when you take a safari ride at Wilpattu. Depending on your schedule, and preferences, you could pick either a morning safari, afternoon safari or a full day safari. The gravel roads will lead you to spectacles of places, and you will be able to witness creatures such as Leopards, Elephants, Sloth Bears, Crocodiles and a plethora of avifauna on these rides. Read up on these inhabitants of the forest before you pay them a visit, as it is important to understand their patterns and behavior. An experienced naturalist will be appointed to you, who will be more than happy to educate you on these glorious animals and their habitat. You could stop for tea, or brunch and breathe in the fresh air and savor a moment of quietude.

Safari Camping:

The Wilpattu Safari Camp nestled in the wooded forest, is located just ten minutes away from the national park. Tucked in between the chena cultivation and the rice farms of the local villages, the tents sit among the cool shade of trees, providing shelter and refreshing comfort. The camp was built to complement the nature, in an unhurried and holistic manner, but its simplistic structure also comes with solar powered electricity and wifi, as well as toilet facilities. Constructed to preserve the welfare of the wildlife and promote sustainable conservation of it, these camps tick all the boxes when it comes to responsible eco-friendly tourism. What You Should Bring:

You are entering the animal kingdom. So, please do not behave in any way that will trigger the hosts, or throw their equilibrium off.  One of the simplest ways you could ensure that you are stepping off with the right foot is to be dressed in light colored cotton clothes that blend in with the environment. Dress comfortably in shorts or long pants for the safari, and keep your skin safe from insect bites by having an insect repellant on hand. The sun in this area of Sri Lanka could be harsh, so lather up your skin with sunblock and use sunglasses and a hat whenever possible to avoid skin damage or irritation. If you visit in December or January, it is wise to have a light jacket or a shawl , as it tends to get cold, especially after dark.

Bring your own camera batteries, memory cards and charging equipment, as the neighboring towns will not have any available in their stores.
